ARSENAL: Predicted grade: A– If they can keep focused, Wenger’s boys have a chance of picking up a pot come prize-giving. But not the big ones.
ASTON VILLA: Predicted grade: B Proven manager and a promising young squad bode well. With a little more concentration and application, this can be a big year for Villa.
BLACKBURN ROVERS: Predicted grade: B– Incey will do well to emulate Sparky in his first season – so around ninth place; it will be a major fillip if Matt Derbyshire can emerge from the shadows during this campaign.
BOLTON WANDERERS - Predicted grade: C+ Close to the top half: shot-shy Davies has to step up and Ricardo Vaz Te, whose 2007/08 campaign was wrecked by injury, must also deliver.
CHELSEA - Predicted grade: A– With Scolari at the helm Chelsea expect excellent grades, but it’s a tall order to emulate Jose and win at the first attempt.
EVERTON - Predicted grade: B Moyes has combined bargain buys with academy hopefuls to great effect; but the arrival of a proven star could give Everton a shot on Merseyside bragging rights.
FULHAM - Predicted grade: C- May wobble a bit to start, but some judicious shopping in the January sales should keep them safe.
HULL CITY – Predicted grade: D May not stand for ‘down’. We’ve got a suspicion these Tigers will leave a few teeth marks this season.
LIVERPOOL - Predicted grade: B Could do better – but probably won’t.
MANCHESTER UNITED - Will win it again. A+
MANCHESTER CITY - Predicted grade: C+ A new manager and fresh signings offer hope, but comedy will find a way of upsetting the apple cart, as always.
MIDDLESBROUGH - Predicted grade: C If Mido and Alves stay off the fish suppers, Boro could have a potent strike force, and the class of 2008 have another year of experience to count on.
NEWCASTLE - Predicted grade: C+ The Barcodes still lack quality and tactical nous, and excite and frustrate in equal measure; the 54-year wait for a trophy will rumble on…
PORTSMOUTH - Predicted grade: B+ A mean back line should secure a top-half league finish, while a new-look strike force could deliver the goods.
SUNDERLAND - Predicted grade: C Keane knows his stuff. Heck, he even called United’s title win back in January. More consistency in the transfer market could be the next step…
STOKE CITY – Predicted grade: D Staying up will be tough. They surely need to buy a proven top-flight striker.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - Predicted grade: B+ Top four might be stretching it a bit, but with Modric they may close the gap on Liverpool.
WEST BROMWICH ALBION – Predicted grade: C- Mowbray’s side is probably the best-equipped of the new boys to handle the pace – their experience from 2006/07 could be crucial.
WEST HAM UNITED - Predicted grade: C The Irons manage to be less than the sum of their parts, so in the time-honoured fashion: could do better.
WIGAN ATHLETIC - Predicted grade: B- A sharp start could set up a top-half finish. But they need goals, so Heskey and co must deliver.
